About Me - CV
My name is Savvas Panagi, Graduation from the school of Electrical and Computer Engineer of National Technical University of Athens, with direction of Energy. Currently i am a PhD candidate in Derpartment of Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering and Informatics of Cyprus University of Technology.
π Profession Experience:
Cyprus University of Technology β Limassol, Cyprus - Researcher | 06/2023 β 05/2024
My work involves close collaboration with the Transmission System Operator (TSO) and Distribution System Operator (DSO) on crucial projects aimed at enhancing the efficiency and stability of the power system.
Project 1: I have worked on developing technical requirements for integrating Energy Storage Systems (ESS) into the power grid. This involves ensuring compatibility with existing infrastructure and enhancing overall grid stability and reliability. Additionally, I am defining technical standards for grid-forming inverters, which are essential for maintaining grid stability, particularly in systems with a high penetration of renewable energy sources. My goal is to ensure these inverters can operate independently and support key grid functions such as voltage and frequency regulation.
Project 2: I have worked at operating marginal policy for frequency reserves in power system of Cyprus. Main responsibilities were the dimensioning of necessary inertia, FFR, FCR, FRR and RR reserves which is different products of frequency control that must consider during the scheduling of day ahead operation of power system. Beyond the dimensioning we have been doing some simulations using DIgSILENT (Power Factory) and Python for verification of the results on the Cyprus power transmission grid. Moreover, due to the non-connectivity of Cypriot electricity system with the respectively of other countries the network is characterized as low inertia system and further research into a new technology have been investigated. Finally, ways of utilizing machine learning for the dimensioning of certain reserves are also considered.
Electricity Authority of Cyprus β Hybrid, Cyprus β Greece, Internship| 10/2022 β 02/2023
During my internship at EAC, I have become familiar with Cyprus distributor power grid. I have used the ArcMap which is an GIS software to represent the electrical grid (substations, transformers, Cables, Pipes etc.). Additionally, I have used the one-line diagram of Limassol grid for more familiarity with the network structure. Moreover, I have help with licensing of photovoltaic installations at commercial buildings and Houses. Lastly, I have work in network extension studies for the connection of new supplies, in studies of underground and aerial supply installation and in the installation of a new substation. Through this practice, I have seen the above processes both in an office environment and in workplaces with an on-site visit.
LDK, Greece, Junior Engineer | 08/2022 β 09/2022
At LDK Consultant, I have worked as junior engineer under an internship program that my university offer. My responsibilities were in the field of energy audits and renewable energy projects. I have cooperated in energy audits projects base on article 10, N4342/2015 of Greece law and the main principles of EN16247 standards. For this analysis we used datas like production and consumption (Energy, Natural Gas, Oil etc.), weather condition and export conclusion about emissions, base lines, CUSUM analysis, SEC analysis, production and weather correlation with consumption. Whenever there is SCADA system with used to make analysis of production per line and useful 15-minute figures of consumption. Base on the above we suggest a solutions for better energy efficiency. To evaluation the suggestions we estimated the CAPEX-OPEX, calculation of relevant economic indicators (NPV, IRR, SPB etc.), sensitivity analysis and risk assessment. Finally, my employment in the RES sector was mainly monitoring the processes. I have seen pre-study calculations of transformers, cables and fuses. Ways of grouping photovoltaic panels and licensing procedures
